Pakistan order for N.Z. Steel

New Zealand Steel, Ltd, has won its first major export contract for steel billets. Tha order has been secured In the face of strong overseas competition and is valued at more than $1,500,000. The company is to supply more than 8500 tonnes of steel billets to the Trading Corporation of Pakistan, Ltd. The order was negotiated through Primary Industries Corporation, of New York. The billets will be shipped to Pakistan early in February.
They were produced from ironsand deposits at Waikato North Head, and from scrap steel; the ironsand content exceeds 70 per cent. Although the contract is the first of any significance for the export of billets. New Zealand Steel galvanised sheet, coil and corrugated sheet worth more than $16,000,000 have been sold to countries in the Pacific and the United States during the last three years.
