Traverse of Mt Cook

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU.

A group of four men, led by Mr G. Edwards, returned to the Empress Hut on Sunday evening, after accomplishing the grand traverse of the three peaks of Mount Cook.

Some concern had been felt for the party, as three days had elapsed since the men set out on their climb, and a spotter aircraft this morning made a reconnaissance.

A message was received from the climbers at Empress Hut, on the western buttresses of Mount Cook, between the Empress and Sheila glaciers. The party had bivouacked at an altitude of about 9000 ft, said Mrs D. Massam, of Mount Cook.

“They were very tired when they arrived at the hut,” she said.
