Disaster appeal reaches $3900

The Red Cross Darwin disaster relief fund in Christchurch has been boosted by $B5, bringing it to a total of $3900, according to the chairman of the North Canterbury centre of the Red Cross Society (Mr J. G. Cameron) yesterday. The $B5 was raised by the youth section of the society’s Cheviot branch, which this week held a sponsored trek. Personal donations and contributions from service organisations in Christchurch have been made to the fund through the North Canterbury centre since the Darwin disaster. The fund would remain open for as long as people continued to contribute to it, Mr Cameron said.
