Preparing cricket pitch
Any undulations in the pitch used for the Canter-bury-Otago Piunket Shield match were not the result of rolling the wicket oneway.
“It is normal procedure, and has been for some years, to roll the wicket block in three directions—up and down, across, and diagonally,” said Mr I. B. Cromb, summer chairman of the Victory Park Board, in reply to a correspondent, “Flooring Specialist.”
“After harrowing and rolling 12 weeks ago, It again rained heavily, and at the start of the cricket season there was no grass on the central area.”
“When this season Is finished, the wicket block will be harrowed and topdressed and resown,” Mr Cromb said.
During the winter it was proposed that light plastic covers be used, when there is rain, to protect the whole area between the 25yd lines of the Rugby field. This had yet to be discussed by the board, but it was likely to be raised at its next meeting.
