CLIMBER HIT BY BOULDER
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, January 10. A man who was hit by a boulder, dislodged while he and other members of a climbing party were at the foot of the Godley Glacier on Wednesday evening, was treated at Timaru Hospital today for broken bones in his right hand. Chris Ward, aged 22, a University of Auckland student, was brought to Timaru by road from Lilybank Station, Lake Tekapo, and later taken back to Tekapo. He intends to continue climbing in Mount Cook National Park. The managing director of New Zealad Trophy Guide Service, Ltd, at Lilybank Lodge (Mr G. Joll) said Mr Ward also suffered head cuts Mr Joll said that another member of the paiy, also a student, had bruised ribs. She fell while boulderhopping in the Scone Creek acres the Sealy Pass in the watershed of the Whataroa River. The group had come from Harihari In Westland National Park and crossed the 5800 ft Sealey Pass into the head of the Godley.
