Obituary Mr N. R. Roper
The death occurred suddenly in Auckland between Christmas and New Year of Mr N. R. (Noel) Roper, former secretary-manager of the New Zealand Friesian Association, who was wellknown to cattle breeders throughout the country. He was aged 66 years. Mr Roper joined the staff at the New Zealand Friesian Association in 1926 and became secretary of the association in 1942, a position he held until his retirement as secretary-manager in 1972. He subsequently continued to work for the association in an advisory capacity until the time of his death, giving him a record of 49 years continuous service to the breed. From 1949 Mr Roper was a member of the council of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. He was a member of the New Zealand Easter Show Committee from 1953 to 1969. Mr Roper was well-known for his promotion work for the Friesian breed and his help to young breeders, and his assistance to agricultural and pastoral associations with the announcing at shows and organisation of all breeds’ sections. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
