Hutt Valley Beatty Cup players unbeaten
(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS. After a 6-2 defeat of Hawke’s Bay, Hutt Valley has a virtually unassailable lead in the Beatty Cup national men’s softball competition at Hastings. Hutt, the joint cup holder, ' has not been beaten in sec- | tion play. Yesterday, Hutt beat Canterbury, 4-3, in the morning. It then overwhelmed the ! weary Hawke’s Bay side , which had lost, 1-2, to Wai- , kato, in a 10-innings momi ing match. > The Hutt Valley match > against Canterbury went into I an extfa innings — the fourth such match in which Hutt
has played. Wayne Baldwin scored the winning run. Hutt Valley now has the maximum 18 points from nine games, followed by Wellington with 12 and Auckland with 10. Hutt has only three more games to play. In the Headifen Memorial section, Manawatu suffered its first loss of the tournament when it was beaten, 4-2, by Southland.
