WOMEN’S CRICKET WIN LIKELY FOR WELLINGTON
An outright win for Wellington over Canterbury, and a hi<* points lead in the Rothmans I lallyburton-.lolin-slone women's cricket tournament, seemed likely after yesterday's play at Burnside Park.
Bowlers were on lop al! day and 24 wickets fell for only 198 runs. But at the finish Welling-j ton was in a strong position — Canterbury’ was only two: runs ahead and only six second innings wickets remained. The best performance came from the Wellington left-arm medium-pace bowler, Jill' Saulbrey. who took nine wickets for 38 off 36 overs;: in the first Canterbury, innings she bowled unchanged for 24 overs, taking six for 27. In the other game Otago was poised to overtake North Shore’s first innings total of 139 — Otago was' 32 runs behind with five wickets in hand at stumps.
