Cape Verde Islands
Portugal will launch another part of her sprawling colonial empire towards independence today when a transitional government takes power in the Cape Verde Islands. But an agreement reached with the ruling party in newly-independent GuineaBissau. on the west African mainland, virtually ensured that the Cape Verde archipelago would eventually be politically united with the former Portuguese colony.— Lisbon, Dec. 30.
