Lister takes Otago golf

r f.V.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The Timaru professional, J. M. Lister, shot a four-under-par 68 in the final round and won the Otago Charity Golf Classic at St Clair yesterday.

It was Lister’s second successive victory at this tournament and will put him in the right frame of mind to defend his Garden City Classic title at Russley this week. The result yesterday was not decided until the last! green. Another previous win-1 ner, K. D. G. Nagle, gave the I large gallery on the! eighteenth green a fitting climax to the event when his' attempted birdie putt to tie with Lister slid past the cup.' SECOND SHARED Nagle shared second place with the American, R. Arinno, on 273. Lister began the last round 12 under par, and one stroke behind Nagle and an American, D. Pooley, who had shot 66s in his second and third rounds.

Lister had two birdies and seven pars to the turn, and! then gained his ascdency over his challengers by scoring three successive birdies at the start of the homeward run. He dropped a stroke at the thirteenth, but made his pars at the last five. EAGLE FOR NAGLE Nagle had regulation’ figures for the first 13 holes, and then eagled the'

fourteenth with a 15ft putt. But he could not pick up a birdie that he needed on the last four holes. Pooley failed to maintain his consistency of the previous two rounds, and slipped to a 74 and equal eighth place. The outstanding feat of the third round was a 63 by another American, H. Underwood, which equalled the course record set by Nagle four years ago. Leading scores.— 272: J. Lister (N.Z.). 69, 68 67, 68 ($4650). ’ - ’ 273: K. Nagle (Aust.), 64, 70, 69 ! 70; R.
