Premium by co-op. for some lambs
The Primary Producers’ Co-operation Society is offering a premium above Meat Board schedule prices for some lightweight lambs.
Its premium is lc a kilogram for fair average quality lambs killing out at between Bkg and
12.5 kg, and 2c on f.a.q. lambs killing out at 13kg to 16kg. The offer applies from I today. The society recently dis- ' continued the 30c a head pre-; miurn on all export lambs | that it was offering in the! early stages of the new season. A spokesman. Mr D. M. Bruce, of Ashburton, who has been re-elected as a director of the society from Mid and North Canterbury, said yes- ■ terday that the premium was being paid on f.a.q. light-! weight lambs because in the present good season for growth not many of these were coming forward, and there was a demand for them in markets outside Britain. S.I. KILL DOWN According to the Press, Association, the society says that .although the North Island lamb kill to November 16 was down only 7.3 per cent on last year, the South Island kill declined 58 per cent over the same period. Average lamb weights were up almost 31b a carcase, and there was a substantial South Island shortage of grades most suitable for diversification. Mr Bruce said that since the beginning of the season the society had been offering its suppliers two alternatives —they could have the full schedule, or 90 per cent of
schedule with lambs going into the traditional pool, any realisations over that level being paid out at the end of the season.
SKINS UP The schedule of prices put out by exporters during the week-end is the Meat Board’s schedule for lamb meat, but exporters have raised their prices for skins 2c to 15c, according to wool pull. This means that the standard prime 13.5 kg or 301 b lamb with a wool pull of 0.75 kg is now worth $5.97 at the works. The board’s schedule also applies to ewe mutton, but here again exporters have raised skin payments 5c to 11c a skin. Lamb skins are now worth! from 80c for a skin with aj wool pull of 0.45 kg to 140 c; for a skin with a pull of: I.skg.
