Cut in exports of copper
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LUSAKA, Dec. 1.
Zambia is to reduce copper exports by 10 per cent, or about 70,000 tonnes, but will not close down any mines, a spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Industry said. Chile decided last week to close down the Exotica mine temporarily after a decision in Paris by the intergovernmental Council of Copper Exporting Countries to reduce exports by 10 per cent to boost the price of copper, now below £6OO a tonne.
The council members are Chile, Peru, Zaire and Zambia.
