Town Hall eating
Sir, —I read in your paper about refreshments not available in your Town Hall. Well, we were appalled as visitors to Christchurch about three weeks ago. We went in to have a look round, decided to have lunch, went to the cafeteria to be greeted by two females with their mouths full of food. There was hardly a thing to eat in the show cases and warming oven. We asked if there was anything else to pick from. The answer was: “If you are not satisfied with what is there go somewhere else.” Two others came up after us and got the same treatment. They were overseas visitors and were as disgusted as we were. We settled for a cup of coffee and sandwich each. While we were eating this the two who were supposed to be behind the counter, I presume, were settling down for more eats, and a smoke at one of the; tables. This is
not very good for our public relations. We do not visit Christchurch often but we thought we would get better treatment than this.—Yours, etc., MARLBOROUGH. November 30, 1974.
