Boys charged with robbery

Two boys, one aged 13 and the other aged 15, will appear in the Auckland Children’s Court this morning after the robbery of an 80-year-old woman in Tawa Road, Onehunga, early on Saturday night, the Press Association reports.

Police said that the woman was waiting to catch a bus in Tawa Road to go to the Alex* andra Park trots when two boys grabbed her handbag. In the struggle the woman fell to the ground and managed to keep hold of the bag until the straps broke. Police caught two boys in railway yards nearby and later charged them with robbery. The woman was taken to Green Lane Hospital where she was treated for shock and bruises.

Garage theft Two young schoolboys were interviewed by police after the theft of $2OO from a Wellington service station yesterday. The boys, aged 10 and 13, were stopped by police soon after the money was taken from the Adelaide Road service station. Police said that the money had been recovered. The theft, from a cash register, occurred while the sole attendant at the station was filling a car with petrol, police said. Australian robbed A 22-year-old Australian told Auckland detectives he was beaten and robbed of $lOO soon after midnight on Saturday. Detective Senior Sergeant B. P. Kemp said that the Australian alleged that he was sitting in a van in Bledisloe Street when three Polynesians approached. They asked him for a light and before he could answer dragged him from the vehicle and beat him up.

The Australian said that the men took his wallet containing $lOO. His upper denture was broken in the struggle and the inside of his lip was lacerated. Mr Kemp said that the complainant told the police that his assailants jumped up and down on the bumper of a car parked nearby soon after robbing him. Apparently frightened by what happened, the woman driver of the car drove off.
