If the cap fits...

The Commander of the United States 25th Infantry Division, Major General Harry W. Brooks, is presented with a green beret of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment during his visit on Saturday to “Exercise Pacific Coaster” on the West Coast.

Helping with the new headgear is LieutenantColonel J. D. McGuire, the exercise controller, who commands 2nd/Ist Battalion, R.N.Z.1.R., Burnham.

General Brooks is one of the highest-ranking negroes in the United States Army. He will discuss the New Zealand - United States Army exchange exercise programme with Ministry of Defence chiefs in Wellington today.

“Exercise Pacific Coaster,” the largest Regular Force exercise for many years, ended yesterday morning when the 500 New Zealand, Australian, American and Fijian soldiers boarded a special train at Ikamatua to return to Burnham.
