Work on ships to ease shortage
A Wert German shipyard has begun work on two container ships to help ease the ship shortage on the Europe to Australia and New Zealand container route, the Press Association says in a London report. The two 19,000 ton ships have been ordered by the Associated Container Transportation (Australia), Ltd. and the Australian National Line.
The ships, together with containers and ancillary equipment, will cost more than S44m each. Each has a capacity of 1800 containers—of which 907 are reefers.
They are being built by the Bremen Vulca shipyard. The first ship is expected to be delivered to Australia in February. 1977. and the second in June. 1977.
