R.A.F. plane to compete
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON. A Royal Air Force Nimrod aircraft has left its base at Kinloss, Scotland, for New Zealand, where it will defend the Fincastle Trophy for maritime operations. The aircraft, from 206 Squadron, has a crew of 12. It will reach New Zealand on November 5 to defend the trophy against air force crews from New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. The trophy, competed for anually, is awarded for the skill and expertise of maritime aircrews in detecting and destroying enemy submarines. Each aircraft flies in two sorties, one by day, the other by night. Last year an aircraft from 203 Squadron, based in Malta, won the trophy for the Royal Air Force.
