Mr Scott to coach

The Canterbury coach, Mr M. C. Scott, will again coach the New Zealand water polo team. He was appointed to the position for the New Zealand Games at a meeting last evening of the New Zealand Water Polo Board. The manager is the chairman of the Auckland board, Mr G. A. Knights. He is a former team-mate of Mr Scott; they were in the same Canterbury team which shared the national championship in 1967, when the captain was a present member of the Games squad, I. L. Gunthorp. Mr Scott has previously coached a New Zealand team — he had charge of the side which toured Australia early last year. This winter, the coach was Mr A. Keenan, of Wellington, but Mr Scott was manager of the team which toured Europe.

Mr Scott said after his appointment that the 22strong squad was likely to come together at least three times before Christmas, probably twice at Christchurch. The team will be announced early in January, during the Ryan Cup national inter-club championship. Mr P. J. Carpinter (Christchuich) was appointed technical adviser to the team.
