Lottery sales up a third
The replacement of the Golden Kiwi and Mammoth Kiwi lotteries by the Kiwi Jackpot and the Kiwi Super has raised sales by about a third, the organiser of New Zealand Lotteries, Ltd (Mr W. Kiddle) confirmed yesterday.
' The innovations ap-i peared to have struck | the right note with the; public, and the upsurge of sales when the changes were first made about six weeks ago had been maintained, he said. The eleventh lottery in the new jackpot series is expected to be on sale this week. Many agents are reported as selling their quota of tickets within two days. The lottery has a $24,000 first prize and a jackpot for the ticket-holder whose number is drawn twice. The jackpot increases by $lOOO each time, and is now at $7OO0 — the seventh lottery having

One , agent said that he estimated 1 lottery sales from his shop 1 in the last six weeks to have • doubled. Sales for the Kiwi Super have also increased subi stantially, the tickets selling > very quickly, according to Mr 1 Kiddle. This lottery has replaced the Mammoth Kiwi, and although the first prize has dropped to $60,000, the odds 1 of winning have risen 40 per cent with 100,000 fewer tickets in each lottery. The first of the new Kiwi Super series has not yet been ■ drawn —but agents report a definite increase in sales.
