South African wines banned
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) VICTORIA (British Columbia). October 25. The British Columbian Attorney-General (Mr Alex MacDonald) announced today that South African wines would be banned from the province’s liquor stores, Agence France-Presse reports. He said that the move followed the sense of a United Nations resolution attacking South Africa’s racial policies, and he added that he hoped the remainder of Canada, and the world, would take similar steps. “We’re really sending a signal to the people of South Africa and saying to them: Reverse your disastrous policies before it is too late and you are at the point of the inevitable bloodbath,” Mr MacDonald said. The provincial government stopped ordering South African wines in May, and still has about 5000 cases left in stock. In hospital Cardinal Heenan, aged 69, spiritual leader of four million Roman Catholics in England and Wales, has been readmitted to hospital two weeks after recovering from a heart attack. A hospital spokesman said that the cardinal had suffered an asthmatic attack and an associated chest infection.— London, October 25.
