Caterer’s progress
The man behind Town Hill Enterprises, Ltd, Mr F. J. H. Visser, has problems with another of his catering concessions, that at Queen Elizabeth II Park. The Christchurch City Council has filed a writ against him for nonpayment of rent (the charge during the Commonwealth Games period was $20,000) and he has filed a counter-claim, alleging breach of contract by the council, for $93,000. Litigation is still awaited. His entry to the restaurant trade in Christchurch came several years ago when he bought the Malando Restaurant. He later expanded from this and set up the Guardsman and Grenadier restaurants. The Malando was sold last year and the Grenadier early this week, the new owner to take possession at the end of the month. Mr Visser intends to keep the Guardsman. In 1972 he bought the Warners Hotel as an unlicensed premises which he is still running as a private hotel. About the same time he bought the Crown Hotel at Duvauchelles, renaming it Les Pecheurs, and using it as the basis of Banks Peninsula Liquor Services, Ltd, a firm to supply his restaurants and catering concessions.
