Cancer experts in conference

CN.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) FLORENCE. The eleventh international congress on cancer has opened in Florence, almost 4000 specialists from all over the world set anxious to compare notes on treatment and research, Agence France Presse reports. President Leone attended the opening ceremonies in the Santa Croce Basilica. Professor Pierre Denoix, chairman of the International Union against Cancer, is president of the conference. “Cancer is not inexorable, it is not incurable, and it should not be a source of shame,” Professor Denoix said. “One should not give the word ‘cancer’ a dramatic significance evoking a terrible event or inevitable tragedy. “Today, one out of three cancers is cured, whereas 30 years ago three out of four sufferers died.”
