Hansells prize to Driver
Don Driver, winner of the 1972 Benson and Hedges award for painting. has now won a major award for sculp- | ture. ' His work, “Double Cosmos,” has won the "A” section of the 1974 Hansells ! Award. The sculpture is a ■ large work constructed of (wood, glass and stainless I steel. The "B” section, for monu- , mental or environmental sculpture, has been won by Peter Nicholls, of Auckland, I with his magnette, “Green | Green I.” 1 This work, when translated to full scale, would be 115 ft Jong. Peter Nicholls uses native timber for his works, and for this maquette he has used pohutukawa and puriri. A full-size sculpture of the same type is under construction for the 1975 Mildura Sculpture Award exhibition in Australia.
This year’s Hansells A’-'-'-d exhibition opened on Sty in the Wairarapa .». IS Centre, Masterton. Six of the 23 sculptors whose work is on display are from Christchurch. They are Nola Barron, Mary Bartos, Kevin Burgess, Bruce Edgar, Rosemary Johnson, and Ronald Taylor.
