290 price rises

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. In September, the Campaign Against Rising Prices counted 290 price increases. The Auckland president of C.A.R.P. (Mrs F. Humphries) said tonight that the metric system was fooling housewives. “They should be warned against the increase in prices and the smallness of packets,” she said. “We have had complaints from people that they have rung up the Department of Trade and Industry about price increases and have been told the department has no control over prices. “Another complaint we have is about misleading advertising; today I had 14 phone calls about that.”
