Ringo joins campaign
Ringo Starr is to campaign publicly against young people taking drugs. The only member of the Beatles who has never been charged with a drug offence, Ringo will join 20 other pop stars making anti-drug commercials for Radio Luxembourg. The warnings will be heard by millions around Europe.
Ringo’s message says: “Dangerous drugs are not an escape . . . they are a trap." “It’s time we got together and took a look at what we are doing.” Ringo will be joined by stars such as Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, the O’Jays and Judy Collins.
Radio Luxembourg, which broadcasts in English from evening until about 3 a.m., claims «n audience of 14 million of which eight million are under 34.
