Panel to judge title bout
(N Z P.A -Renter—Copy rig ht) LONDON. An international panel of officials will control the world heavy-weight championship fight between George Foreman and Mohammad Ali on October 30. Colonel Hassine Hamouda. secretary -general of the African Boxing Council, said yesterday that three experienced referees—one American, one African, and one other, probably a South American — would handle the first world championship fight in Kinshasa, Zaire. Their names would not be announced until the day of the fight, Colonel Hamouda said, nor would he say which of the three would be referee and which the ringside judges. The decision was taken at an executive meeting in London this week of the World Boxing Council, which has given the fight its approval. The rival World Boxing Association has refused to sanction the fight for technical reasons. Mr W. Brennan, the W.B.A. chairman, said in Richmond, Virginia, that although the Foreman-Ali bout lacked official W.B.A. sanction, it was still regarded as a legitimate title match. The promoters had failed to apply for W.B.A. sanction or submit the contracts for its approval, thus violating W.B.A. regulations, Mr Brennan added;
