Combined team is squad winner

Burnside-Chtrist’s College has won the men’s A grade squash rackets competition and the Wilson Shield. In the final round of matches H gained eight points which put '• it nine ahead of High School Old Bos's 11 Old Boys featured in an exciting draw, 102 points each, with Christchurch 11, after matches were level, two each and games eight each. The final points were: Burnside-Christ’s College 92, High School Old Boys II 83,. Christchurch II 85, UniversityChristchurch 54, High School Old Boys I S2, Christchurch I 46, Sumner 28. For the combined side, L. C. Sparks showed good form to reverse a previous result and beat L. P. Skurr (Sumner) in I five games - in a SO-minute ■ struggle. i The rallies went on intermin-

ably. much of the play was crosscourt, but it was always an interesting match and at 6-ail in the final game there was the encouraging sight of both men running as hard as ever. J. G. Foulds continued his run of successes, accounting for L. G. Milne in three games. Sumner’s third player, C. Van Uden, caused an upset by coming from behind with a sound display of varied pace to beat R. Blank in the final match of the season.

The draw between Old Boys II and Christchurch II was the first of the season. Both teams had to field reserve* although the result finally hinged on the match between V. J. W. Hargreaves and M. Billington This provided some bright squash. Hargreaves’s precise, controlled play being countered by Billington's occasional flashes of almost brilliant attacking 1 pi*y.
