Big new tennis play-off

(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK. A tournament bringing together the winners of four iof the world’s major women's itennis championships to play for total prize money of ($lOO,OOO was announced yesterday. Known as the World Series of Women’s Tennis, the tournament will be staged on April 19 and 20 next year at Lakeway, Texas. It is sponsored by the hosiery comjpany, L’Eggs. i Misses E. Goolagong and C. Evert, and Mrs B. J. King (have accepted invitations to play in the inaugural tournament. A fourth competitor will be named later.

The tournament is designed to match the winners of the Australian, French, Wimbledon and United States opens. Miss Goolagong won the Australian, Miss Evert took both the French and Wimbledon, and Mrs King is the United States champion. The winner’s prize is $50,000, with $25,000 to the runner-up.
