AUSTRALIAN INQUIRY

Allegations of recruitment (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 1. A Rhodesian officer who came to Australia in the gu)>e of a South African businessman had recruited a number of Australians — “fewer than 10” — into the Rhodesian Army, a Foreign Affairs Department spokesman said in Melbourne today. “We have reason to believe that confidential Army personnel records have been made available for this recruiting, and the Departments of Defence and the Attorney-General, and the police, are investigating the matter,” the spokesman said. A section of the Australian Defence Act prohibits recruiting for armed forces not authorised by' the Federal Government.
