Noise in Square

Sir, — Recently Mr H. G. Hay said that if elected Mavor he would get tougher ■with barking dogs. For this |he will earn mv thanks and vote, but one question. Will Mr Hay also make the Square a place the great majority can relax in and enjoy in peace, by prohibiting the present jinglejangle of amplified blaring

noise from so-called bands; religious what-nots in freak clothing spouting loads of rubbish while others hand out garbage pamphlets? I know of many who avoid the Square to get away from this so-called perfect setting of our present Mayor — or so he says — but which is truly a hill-billj atmosphere. Progress and modern thinking are to be encouraged, but not the present circus happenings with amateur clowns which at present invade the city centre. The Square belongs to the majority, not a few or the City Council. — Yours, etc., TRANQUILITY. September 29, 1974.
