Coliseum at Cashmere?

A Melbourne man wants to build a restaurant, designed like a miniature of the Coliseum, bn the Cashmere Hills. The proposal, which was put in writing by Mr B. E. A. Hilton, was greeted with incredulity at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council last evening. Mr Hilton wanted the council’s views, as he intended to buy land below the Summit Road, between the Sign. of the Kiwi and the Calvary Hospital rest home. The land was owned by Mr G. P. O’Farrell, anil the bulk of the land was in the protected zone created by the Summit Road Pro-

tection Act. The lower part of the land was in the rural zone. “This is an ambitious programme, and Mr Hilton wants an urgent reply,” said Cr McKenzie. “To build on the protected land would require Regional Planning Authority approval.” “Mr Hilton could take over the Henry Moore sculpture,” suggested Cr E. G. Collins. “Words fail me,” said Cr R. H. T. Thompson. The council decided to tell Mr Hilton that the council could not give him town-planning permission, but that he could test this by applying for a specified departure permit.
