Sections not in Smith St
Reference to the 66 "Smith Street” sections which the Christchurch City Council hopes to sell to help raise $500,000 to peg the rates has led to some confusion — because the sections are not in Smith Street. The sections are off Jura Place, Arran Crescent, and Staffa Street. The confusion has arisen because those streets are relatively new, and when the land was bought by the council many years ago it was off Smith Street. Accordingly, it became known as the Smith Street Block, and later as the Smith Street sub-division —| the name still used in coun-i cil documents.
