Knighthoods for Mr Marshall and two judges
(New Zealand Press Association') WELLINGTON, September 26. A former Prime Minister, Mr J. R. Marshall, is created a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.J in a special honours list announced by the Governor-General (Sir Denis Blundell) today.
Sir John Marshall was Prime Minister between February and November. 1972, after serving as Deputy Prime Minister for the previous 12 years. In addition, the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling), the former Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Watt), and Mr Justice Woodhouse have been appointed members of the Privy Council. Mr Justice Woodhouse, recently appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal, and Mr Justice Macarthur, of the Supreme Court, are both made Knights Bachelor. Since 1946 Sir John, who was awarded the distinction of Companion of Honour (C.H.) in the New Year Honours list in 1973, was appointed a member of the Privy Council in 1966. He has been a member of, Parliament since 1946. first for the now-defunct Mount : Victoria seat and, since 1954 for Karori. Mr Justice Woodhouse, to be known as Sir Owen, was a member of the Supreme; Court from 1961 until his appointment this year as a judge of the Court of Appeal. After a distinguished war-, time career in the Navy dur-] ing which he was awarded' the Distinguished Service Cross, Sir Owen returned to! private law practice, and in, 1954 became Crown Solicitor] in Napier. He was chairman of the
Royal Commission of Inquiry; on Compensation for Per-! sonal Injury, in 1967. The - ! commission’s report, referred to as the “Woodhouse Report,” was the basis for the ;
