Close watch on gliding
Hang-gliding as it affected other members of the community was being closely watched, the Civil Aviation Department told the Heathcote County Council at its meeting last evening. The council’s electricity committee reported that it had received a letter from the Canterbury Hang-Gliding Club regretting the accident in which a member damaged
power lines at Heathcote .Valley. The club said it had no insurance cover to meet a claim for repair and other costs. The council decided to
again consider the question in March. Refused.—The Girl Guides’ Association asked for remission of the $982 due from it for current rates. This was refused on the ground that the council had made the association a $4O grant. Banned.—At the suggestion of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the council banned the use of steel-jawed [animal traps in the urban [part of the county. Building.—A permit for a house valued at $65,000, to be built at Kidson Terrace, [was among building permits [for work worth $182,491 issued in August. _
