Freight rates
Sir, — Mr Rowling has shown how little he knows about economics in “The Press” today. He is “concerned that the British shipping lines could werk on a cost-plus basis when dealing with New Zealand producers.” Is he still learning that everyone, except the producer, works on this basis? He comments that the lamb schedule should improve. Why? Mr Moyle said the same about beef last April and only now is Mr Rowling concerned about beef. Beef has not improved; will iamb? Mr Rowling has also shown further lack of understanding when he says it would be “beneficial if farmers could be persuaded to hold back their lambs.” Beneficial to whom? Where will lambs be grazed, on clover and grassed crops?
Reading what Mr Rowling has said about farming makes one wonder how much he knows of any subject he speaks on. — Yours etc., L.G. September 24, 1974.
