SUPERCARS
The Sil-Guard 600 Supercar races, which were so popular last season, should have plenty of fireworks again. Mai Lee has recently returned from the United States with a 7-litre Chevolet Stingray, which he will be driving in the Supercar races on Sunday. The Camaro Z2Bs have had things nearly all to themselves but Lee’s Stingray could change that. A former speedway driver, Johnny Beachamp, will be driving a Pontiac Firebird 400 — another challenge to the Camaros. But the Camaros will be in good hands. Dave Baker and Art McKee
will be driving theirs and Doug Allan will be driving the car that Ray Archibald drove so successfully last season. There will be at least one Torana XU-1 and a couple of big Monaros as well. There are few modifications allowed for the Sil-Guard 600 Supercars. No body profile modifications are permitted and seven inches is the maximum wheel width allowed. High-performance heads cannot be fitted and the original carburation system must be retained. The cars have to be complete, with alternators, seats and interior fittings in place.
