The Rev. R. H. McKenzie, home secretary for the Bible Society in New Zealand, has been appointed its general secretary. He replaces the Rev. J. Weller, former world service officer of the United Bible Societies, and will take up office next year.
Mr McKenzie has represented the society in consultations in Australia and the Pacific Islands. He is a Presbyterian minister who joined the Bible Society as its home secretary in 1972, after serving as Principal Defence Chaplain to the New Zealand Forces.
He became deputy general secretary in February, 1974. Mr McKenzie earlier served as Union minister in the Raglan Union Church, and had four years service in the ranks with the New Zealand Army in the Middle East. He spent two years in Korea as a chaplain, and 19 with the Royal New Zealand Navy as its chaplain. He is senior ipilitary chaplain of the Presbyterian Church, and a member of the board of governors of Queen Margaret College, and of the Presbyterian Church General Assembly's ministry committee.
