THE HOSPITAL AMENDMENT BILL was introduced to Parliament by Dr G. A. Wall, M.P. This Bill aims to restrict abortions to public hospitals, thereby closing the Auckland Medical Aid Centre’s clinic. We feel this Bill is undemocratic for the following reasons: 1. Its hasty procedure through Parliament. 2. It would restrict the patient’s and the doctor’s choice of amenities, and right of privacy. 3. We object to being denied our right to act according to our consciences while our M.P.s are able to exercise their consciences in a vote on our behalf. 4. If the Auckland Clinic, and private hospitals, are acting illegally, why has no legal case been brought against them? This Bill’s righteous concern for the safety of women would increase the already long waiting lists in public hospitals, forcing women to take the more dangerous alternatives of Australian clinics, back street abortion, or self-induced abortion. More hazardous operations than early abor- « tion are performed in private facilities. Are these also to be stopped? HELP SAVE THE AUCKLAND CLINIC! 1. Sign petition form below. 2. Write to your M.P. 3. Send donations to P.O. Box 4309, Walker St. Post Office, Christchurch. We, the undersigned oppose the Hospital Amendment Bill.
