Amnesty proposal
President Ford yesterday discussed proposals for granting limited amnesty to draft-evaders and military deserters at a two-hour meeting with the Secretary of Defence (Mr James Schlesinger) and the Attor-ney-General (Mr William Saxbe). White House sources say that, barring hitches, an announcement is likely to be made in the coming week, but they have made it clear that the President • is ruling out the idea of a blanket amnesty. The men concerned are estimated to number anywhere between 13,000 and 50,000. — Washington, September 1.
