‘Isolationist policy trend’

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, September 1. The Japanese Prime Minister (Mr Tanaka) is reported to have said that his forthcoming overseas tours later this year are aimed at helping to prevent an economic isolationist trend in the world. Mr Tanaka is due to visit Mexico, Brazil, the United States, and Canada between September 12 and 27, and New Zealand, Australia, and Burma between October 28 and November 8.

The national daily newspaper, “Yomiurui,” quotes Mr Tanaka as telling reporters that isolationist policies, like the Monroe doctrine in the United States after the First World War, had begun appearing, particularly in the European communities, and that to break this trend, it would be necessary for Japan to improve her relations with other countries, in addition to the United States and those of European Economic Community.
