Ford proposes pay rise delay (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, September 1. President Ford has announced plans to postpone for three months a 5.52 per cent pay increase for 1.4 million “white-collar” Government employees, in a bid to combat inflation. The move would save SUS7OOm in Government wages. Mr Ford also announced that he was reducing civilian posts in Government departments by 40,000, under a process of attrition, to save SUS3OOm. The wage-increase deferment was announced in a message to Congress, which has 30 days to consider it. After this it becomes law if no ction is taken.
