Contraceptives for nurses
CX.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, August 27. i Waikato Hospital Board policy on the prescribing of contraceptives for nurses was criticised today by the Nurses’ Reform Association. The association’s president, Mr D. J. Wills, said that the association had received a number of complaints from nurses at the hospital about a new policy prohibiting the prescription
of contraceptives through the) staff nurses’ health clinic. Until June this year, staff) ■at the clinic were free to! :prescribe contraceptives to] ■ staff at their discretion, he said. “The new policy is ambiguous in that it does not specifically prohibit the prescription of contraceptives to registered nurses, only students,” he said. “The board’s policy seems inconsistent when staff can receive inoculations for over--seas travel but cannot receive contraceptives. “The association regards; ■ this as a matter of principle' and has asked the board to! repeal the policy.”
