Another round of plays
Plays from Christ-p church, the West Coast, South Canterbury and Marlborough will compete .in. the .divisional 1 finals of the Theatre Federation’s one ■ act play festival on Friday and Saturday. Two divisional finals have, already been held — in' Hamilton and Feilding — and near the end of the month ■ there will be a fourth, at' Invercargill. From these the judge, Bertha Rawlinson, will select six plays to go to the national final at Balclutha on September 6 and 7. Once again the Elmwood Players are among the favourites for a place in the final. This group is a staunch supporter of the play festivals, usually entering three plays and reaching the final with at least one of them. Two of Elmwood’s three entries this year are in the divisional final. One is pro-
:duced by Alex Henderson, I who has had a double success this year. "Mutatis Mutandis,” ’ which he produced for the St C®stopher’s Drama Group, another of the seven divisional finalists. The programme for Friday and Saturday is:— Friday. “The Last Three Days” (Elmwood Players, produced by Alex Henderson); “The Nfew Model Army” (Granity Drama : Group. Pat Barr); “The Love Course” (Elmwood Players. Elizabeth Hawes). Saturday: "Mutatis Mutandis” (St Christopher’s Drama Group, Alex Henderson); “The Proposal” (Greymouth Repertory Society; Joan Eddy); “The Future is in Eggs” (South Canterbury Drama Group, Dawn Somerville); “Outline of History” (Marlborough Repertory Society, Dale Hendry). The judge, Bertha Rawlinson, has judged throughout New Zealand, and in Sydney, where she was a “Sun” Aria judge in 1953 and a Sydney Eisteddfod judge in singing I and speech last year.
