Chapman, beat. ’ the Brisbane stayer, Lough Lady, ■in a finish that tricked most of the record crowd of almost • 12,060. El Karpe, which led into the straight, was only a half a length i away third. ; The Brisbane jockey, L. Hill. , was certain tie had won the cup with Lough Lady and the Sydney ■ jockey, W. Burnett, was just as confident Lord Ben had been j beaten. ‘ Disappointments of the race were the former New Zealand , horses, LordT Metric and Gay I Master. Both given every ; chance during the race and were ;in a winning position nearing the turn but faded in the run home.
