U.S. travel grants to two Chch men
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 31. Two Christchurch men are among four New Zealand recipients of American travel grants to education specialists and teachers to study developments in their field of interest in the United States under a scheme of the New Zealand-United States Educational Foundation.
They are Mr R. A. Roy, district senior inspector of secondary-schools in Christchurch, who has a 120-day grant to study the administration and organisation of secondary schools, the inservice training of teachers, and alternative forms of secondary education; and Mr B. W. Werry, senior lecturer in mathematics in the secondary division of the Christchurch Teachers’ College, who has a 90-day grant to study mathematics and teacher training. They will take up their grants in 'Washington, under the United States Office of Education, on August 26. The grants are awarded under the 1974 FulbrightHays programme. The other recipients are
Mr B. W. Mead, head of the building department of the Waikato Technical Institute, who has a 90-day grant to study vocational education, particularly as it relates to building industry training; and Mr R. O. Sinclair, chief psychologist in the Department of Education, Wellington, who has a 90-day grant to study training programmes for school psychologists, guidance and counselling programmes, and special school programmes. A Nelson teacher, Mr B. S. Devonshire, of Nayland College, will exchange with Mr W. J. Switzer, of SouthWestern College, Chula Vista, California, under the foundations scheme.
