Girl acquitted on hall charge
A 16-year-okl girl was acquitted in the Ashburton Children’s Court yesterday on a joint charge of breaking and entering the Pendarves Hall on July 13 with intent to commit a crime.
i. The girl, four young men. and a 15-year-old girl, had, been jointly charged with the! ! offence. The police charged' i[that the defendants broke! i into the Pendarves Hall after, I a party at the Chertsey Hall, and caused $1550 damage. The male defendants were : sentenced to prison or I Borstal terms when they i appeared on Monday, and the ■ 15-year-old girl, who pleaded ’ guilty at Monday’s sitting of the Children’s Court, was
placed in Social Welfare l[ Department custody for ■ three months. ' Yesterday, the 16-year-old Igirl, who denied the charge, I was represented by Mr A. D. Ritchie. Sergeant D. K. Sandes prosecuted. ; Mr J. D. Kinder, S.M., said ■ it had not been proved that ’ the girl was a party to the i breaking and entering of the I hall, and therefore the ’ information must be dis- ; missed.
