(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND. July 16
A woman alleged in the Supreme Court i at Auckland today that she had been raped at Auckland Hospital by an orderly.
The woman, a 25-year-old typist, was giving evidence at the trial of Raymond Pu, aged 26, of Te Kuiti, formerly a hospital orderly, now a factory hand.
Pu pleaded not guilty to raping the complainant on April 2. The trial is before Mr Justice Mahon and a jury. The complainant said she had been in hospital overnight because of an illness associated with her epileptic condition. On being discharged she asked a sister to call a taxi for her but was directed to a public telephone.
She was unable to obtain a taxi and was waiting for her mother to call for her when an orderly seated her in an office because she was not feeling well. From the office, she said, she was placed in a wheelchair and wheeled into another room by Pu. She said that in that, room he lifted her from the chair, placed her on a bed and raped her.
She told a nursing sister she wanted to see a doctor at
the hospital but her request was refused because the sister did not believe what had happened. The trial will continue.
