Situation: A ridge of high pressure is moving to the east of New Zealand and a complex frontal system over the Tasman Sea is also moving slowly east. Forecast: Nelson, Marlborough, Buller: Moderate variable winds, easterlies predominating; drizzle along the Kaikoura

Coast, otherwise fair; moderate temperatures this afternoon. Westland: Light winds; changeable and cool; scattered showers. Canterbury: Moderate winds, easterlies predominating about the coast; mainly fair but some coastal drizzle likely. Outlook: Showers in the west, fair in the east.
