Semi-finals of squash
<N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. The Australian, T. Cheetham, outlasted T. Johnson (Rotorua), the top seed, in their semifinal of the New Zealand squash championships last evening. Cheetham won the second and fourth games, Johnston took the first and third, but a tired New Zealander surrendered the final game 0-9, without a'fight. The other men's semi-final, between H. Broun and N. Barbour, both of Henderson, proved a boring affair. Both players seemed to have forKOtten the side walls and there was much fruitless power hitting off the front wall.
Barbour won the match on fitness rather than skill. Results:—
Men’s semi-finals: Cheetham beat Johnston, 5-9, 9-5, 6-9. 9-7. 9-0; Barbour beat H. Broun, 1-9. 9-4, 9-0. 9-0. Women’s semi-finals: J. Webster (Manurewa) beat C. Fleming (Eden-Epsom), 9-3, 9-2. 5-9, 4-9, 9-4; P. Buckingham (Henderson) beat J. Lamb (Khandallah). 9-3, 9-4, 9-3.
