Match was scheduled
The Vancouver High School Rugby team whicn was heavily defeated by a combined schools team at Lancaster Park on Saturday had not at any stage been scheduled to play Burnside High School, said the secretary of the Secondary Schools Rugby Committee (Mr J. B. Russ) yesterday. A report in “The Press” yesterday stated that the Canadians had been scheduled to play Burnside, and that they had been given a “raw deal” in being asked to meet a combined side. Mr Russ said it had not been a “raw deal.” In April, a Burnaby High School team, also from Vancouver, had met and defeated a combined schools team, His committee had been given to understand that Vancouver High School was stronger than Burnaby, and so the itinerary included Saturday’s match against a combined side- His committee had advised Vancouver High School of the programme, but had received no reply. Mr Russ said that the Canadian team had suffered injuries in the North Island, and that might have contributed to the visitors’ substan tial defeat.
